Blogger's New Content Policy

The Old Google: "Censoring [adult] content is contrary to a service that bases itself on freedom of expression."

The New Google: "[We'll] no longer allow blogs that contain sexually explicit or graphic nude images or video.... After this policy goes into effect, Google will restrict access to any blog identified as being in violation of our revised policy."

So yeah, I just got an email informing me that Blogger's content policy will change March 23, 2015. Adult content will no longer be allowed. "Nudity" is still okay, but only if it's "artistic, educational, [etc.]," and they of course provide no definition of artistic (probably because it's subject to being made up on the spot by whichever prude gets the job of deciding whether to censor your work). I've got naked women standing in nooses and various states of bondage, and I consider most of it pretty damn artistic, even if occasionally disturbing (can't art be disturbing?). Something tells me that the little Blogger censorship minions won't agree.

I've mostly moved on from "Finality" stuff anyway, but I suppose this insanity ensures that my blog here is one for the archives. My G+ profile has nearly 2 million views. I've updated this place since early 2012, and I'm still posting on it in 2015, but I guess it ends now. Fuck you, Google. Fuck you.

Tumblr is better anyway.

And Ixquick apparently isn't in bed with the U.S. Government.

UPDATE:
Google responded to the outcry across the Internet and decided not to shut down adult blogs. I wouldn't call this an outright "victory" for free expression, since they thought they could get away with such sweeping censorship in this first place and will likely try again someday, but at least the huge amount of content on the chopping block gets to stay for now.
